Pelican Nebula in Cygnus

The Pelican Nebula (IC5070 and IC5067) is an H II region associated with the North America Nebula in the constellation of Cygnus. The gaseous contortions of this emission nebula bear a resemblance to a pelican, giving rise to its name. It is 1800 light years away.

This image was taken over two nights (27,28 May 2012) and consists of around 40 x 5 minute subs through a Megrez 72 telescope with a 0.8 x focal reducer and Baader 7nm Hydrogen Alpha filter with an Atik 314L+ CCD camera. The calibration, alignment and stacking of the images was done in Maxim DL and the processing in Photoshop CS2.
