The Pleiades - M45


The Pleiades or M45 is also commonly referred to as The Seven Sisters. It is 407 light years distant and is located in the constellation Taurus. The blue streaky nebulosity is due to a dust cloud passing between us and the star cluster. Blue nebulae usually signify scattering by dust.

This image was taken on the night of 27/28 September 2011. It was taken with a William Optics Megrez 90 telescope and Canon 40D DSLR camera. It consists of 20 x 10 min sub exposures at iso 800 ( = total exposure of 3hr 20min) that were stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and processed in Photoshop.
