M31 - The Andromeda Galaxy. This galaxy, the nearest to us, is 2.7 million light-years away. It is 130,000 light years across and is
approx 3 degrees by 1 degree. The small fuzzy blob above and left of centre in this image is a companion galaxy M110 and the even smaller blob to the right of centre is the companion galaxy M32.
Technical details.
Camera used Canon 40D with a 200mm Canon f2.8 lens, the camera being mounted on a Vixen VC200L telescope.
There are 30 exposures each of 60s at iso 400. Stacked Deep Sky Stacker and processed in Photoshop.
Taken in September 2008 at the Kelling Heath star party, Norfolk, UK.
