This large nebula, of which only a part is seen here, approx 3 x the diameter of the Moon lies in the constellation of Cepheus. It has many dark nebulae consisting of obscuring dust and the one in the centre is thought to resemble an elephant’s trunk which gives the nebula its name. It is some 3000 light years distant.

This narrow band image is made up of 10 x 1200s through an Ha filter.

It was taken through a Megrez 90 telescope with an Atik 460EX CCD camera on the night of 14 Nov 2013.
