ASTROPHOTOS |
Monday 15 June 2009 17:44 Maldon. This was taken from my bedroom window. The camera was set on f22 and low iso setting in order to get the sky not over exposed but giving as long an exposure time as possible (in this case 8s) and hence increase the chance of capturing a lightning strike. All the lightning seen to this point was well behind the trees and houses in this view when FLASH/BANG this happened and fortunately the shutter was open. The lightning bolt was approx 25 metres from my window. Surprisingly, on searching the ground the next morning there was no scorch marks or anything to be found to show the point of contact. The field is the local primary school playing field but fortunately this happened well after the students had left. It was an amazing experience and I am so lucky to have captured the image. On the Wednesday this photo appeared on the front page of the local newspaper. |
